as we probably all know, the Mortal Kombat series is probably the best fighting game series of the 21st century, with streetfighter and Tekken following suit. But is this game truly accessible to accessibility users like me? And is it good for screen readers?
Before we get started.
I just want to take the time to address some updates. I have not been posting on this website is normal, due to the fact that I have had no ideas and no updates to address, resulting in no posts. This review has been conducted on an Xbox series X, but as I am aware this review also applies to the PlayStation four, Xbox One, PlayStation five and Xbox series S, as well as PC and steam. Correct me if I am wrong in the comments of this post please.
Also want to point out that I will not be doing any audio overviews or video overview is in this post, so you will have to rely on pure text and navigation in order to follow this review.
The beginning.
Unless you know, a cited person would be able to navigate the game fully, but as a sightless gamer myself, I have no indication to know whether the game has loaded or anything has popped up on the screen.as soon as I booted into the game, the first thing I noticed was, there was some ambience noise, that’s it. No sound cues, no screen reader, no nothing. Just no integration of any sound to let the user know that it had loaded the game. And this is where the frustrations coming.
What did I know that there was a terms and conditions page waiting for me? No I did not, and this is where the annoying things coming. You see the publishers of this game is not actual never realm Studios, I think the developer is eclipse, correct me if I am wrong. But the publisher is absolutely outrageous, Atari games. We all know that this was coming especially Atari is known for the countless inaccessible games being published. No wonder Warner Brothers wouldn’t take this game into any consideration when they were asking eclipse to publish it. They had partnered up with never realm, especially to get the game code for the legacy games, and bear in mind that eclipse was not part of any thing to do with Midway games and never realm Studios when never realm or Midway games decided to publish their games relating to Mortal Kombat.
And this is what I had to use cited assistance to navigate the menu, and select agree on the terms and conditions. And I hate to use sight of assistance because I would rather be independent and navigate my own way, but since Xbox doesn’t have optical character recognition, OCR, it is impossible to navigate any inaccessible game without cited assistance. And this is why I prefer PC gaming in general, they have more opportunities than console players.
The next menu
I want to skip a few menus here because, like the previous menu, inaccessible and requires cited assistance. I went onto the main menu, and as you probably have guest, it is also inaccessible. We are in the modern era, not the 1990s. We are in an error where user feedback is priority and also accessibility is, not an error where we have to rely on one person programming, one person making the characters et cetera. I get that games in that area were not accessible, because in those days we relied on pure force, not pure imagination. Actually, may be a bit of pure imagination, but apart from that we relied on everything else. Now, we use AI to craft our games. Yes, it is that stupid. And also, the worst thing is that it is published by Atari. Like I said before, the worst company to publish a game especially in their current state. When I went into the options section, there was no accessibility menu. None. And even if there was, Atari would probably get rid of the screen reader, and the accessibility API to my knowledge you have to pay for. Plus, in the place section, it is also inaccessible. And when you go onto a game, there is no accessibility on those games, even though eclipse has the opportunity to modify it with a screen reader. And I believe the same developer partnered up we’ve never realm to release Mortal Kombat one on the switch.
Conclusion.
Okay, we are on the stage where this is the conclusion. My thoughts are, great music, great sound effects on the menus, only problem is is that it is not accessible, and since Xbox doesn’t have optical character recognition makes it even more harder for blind and visually impaired users. My last things I want to say to you is, if you want to get a game that is inaccessible, requires cited assistance and also requires optical character recognition if you are on PC, buy it. But if you don’t want to waste your money, because yes it is £41 to get this game, for not even 20 games on this, don’t buy it. And the worst part is, the main games are from the GameBoy, and that has the worst graphics and sounds possible to humankind on a console that doesn’t even have a good processor. We only good game that does have sound effects that is on GameBoy is Mortal Kombat one, and that is on the main character selection screen, not on the fighting bit. And it doesn’t even have my favourite game, Mortal Kombat Armageddon, because that includes basically all the characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise. Anyway, Alfie, signed out.
